Renowned for his exceptional work ethic and leading from the front, he earned a reputation as the person to call for the industry’s most challenging cable logging operations.

A true innovator, Rex played a key role in developing one of New Zealand’s first tethered tree-felling harvesting systems, continually improving safety, productivity and environmental performance. As a respected trainer and assessor, his practical knowledge and no-nonsense approach shaped the careers of countless forestry workers, leaving a lasting legacy across the industry.

In retirement, Rex’s passion for forestry remains as strong as ever. Through his dedication to the Wakefield Higgins Park Steam Museum, where he has curated an impressive collection of historic chainsaws and forestry equipment, and by reviving traditional logger competitions, he continues to preserve the heritage of the industry while inspiring future generations. His outstanding contribution over more than 25 years makes him a worthy inductee into the Hall of Fame.
